Message of Solidarity and Support for Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Thailand

As IEEE Region 10 Director, I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the people of Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Thailand, who are facing severe losses and hardship due to the recent episodes of torrential rains, widespread flooding, and landslides across our region.

In Sri Lanka, heavy rains have caused significant flooding and displacement in many communities.
In Indonesia, the devastating floods and landslides—particularly in Sumatra—have resulted in an extremely high number of casualties and extensive destruction.
In Thailand, severe flooding in the southern provinces has tragically claimed many lives and continues to affect thousands of families.

Across all three countries, we are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and the immense suffering experienced by local communities. Our thoughts are with everyone who has lost loved ones, those who remain missing, and the many individuals who are enduring difficult and uncertain days. We also extend our sincere appreciation to first responders, medical teams, local authorities, and volunteers who are working tirelessly under extremely challenging conditions.

Following our ongoing discussions regarding support for the affected communities in the Philippines, IEEE Region 10 is also actively assessing how we may provide assistance in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Thailand, in coordination with local IEEE Sections, IEEE Humanitarian Technology Activities (HTA), IEEE SIGHT, MOVE, and other relevant partners. We will continue monitoring the situation and consult with local leadership to determine the most immediate needs and identify where IEEE’s contribution can be most meaningful.

At this difficult time, IEEE Region 10 stands in solidarity with all communities impacted by these catastrophic floods in South and Southeast Asia.
We sincerely hope for safety, resilience, and a swift recovery across the region.
