Message of Solidarity and Support for Sri Lanka

As IEEE Region 10 Director, I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the people of Sri Lanka following the devastating torrential rains and widespread flooding that have affected many regions across the country. I am deeply saddened by the reported loss of life, the thousands of families displaced, and the extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods.

Our thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones, those who remain missing, and the many communities now enduring significant hardship. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the first responders, disaster relief teams, and local volunteers who continue to work tirelessly under dangerous and challenging conditions.

IEEE Region 10 is examining how we may extend assistance to the communities impacted in Sri Lanka, working closely with the IEEE Sri Lanka Section, IEEE Humanitarian Technology Activities (HTA), IEEE SIGHT, IEEE R10 HTA Committee, and other relevant groups. We will monitor the situation and coordinate with local leadership to identify the most urgent needs and determine how IEEE can contribute meaningfully.

During this difficult time, IEEE Region 10 stands in solidarity with Sri Lanka.

We sincerely hope for the safety, resilience, and rapid recovery of all communities affected by the heavy rains and flooding.
Takako Hashimoto
