National Workshop on Emerging Technologies in Electrical Power Engineering 2018 – Bhubaneshwar

The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of Silicon Institute of Technology had organized a three day National workshop on emerging technologies in Electrical Power Engineering (NWET-2018) from 8th Feb 2018 to 10th Feb 2018 as an annual event which started in 2008.

Topics discussed

This workshop addressed the various issues and research trends and advances in Power Transmission. In this workshop the various topics discussed were

  • An overview of the recent advances in the area of voltage-source converter (VSC)
  • HVDC Technology
  • Wide area stability controllers
  • State estimation of transmission system
  • Automation of transmission system
  • Role of Smart grid with large-scale penetration of renewable sources
  • Smart System in Power Transmission
  • Latest trends in asset management in Power Grid
  • Condition monitoring of Transformers
  • Operation of distribution network in floating mode

Inaugural session

The inaugural session of the workshop held on 8th February at 10 A.M. Mr. Bibhu Prasad Mohapatra, director, OPTCL addressed the gathering. The other digitories present on the dais were, Prof A K Tripathy, Chair, IEEE India Council PES chapter, Mr. K. Ramakrishna, Chair, IEEE R10 Nominations & Advisory (2017-18), Prof J. Talukdar, Principal, SIT and Prof R K Swain, Convener, NWET-2018. At the end of inaugural function, a souvenir is released followed by the vote of thanks by the Convener, NWET-2018.
