2016 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference

Humanitarian Technology Conference

Date: December 21-23, 2016, Venue: Agra, India

Due to numerous requests from authors, the paper submission deadline has been extended to August 31, 2016.

Humanitarian Technology Conference (HTC) is a premier international technical conference of IEEE Region 10, which comprises 57 Sections, 6 Councils, 21 Subsections, 514 Chapters and 1159 Student Branches in the Asia Pacific region.

The conference will focus on new trends and advances in Humanitarian Technologies and it will be held in Agra, India from 21 – 23 December 2016.

Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri, which are UNESCO World Heritage sites are located in Agra.

This conference is expected to bring together researchers, educators, students, practitioners, technocrats and policymakers from across academia, government, industry and non-governmental organizations to discuss, share and promote current works and recent accomplishments in the area of Humanitarian Technologies Distinguished people will be invited to deliver keynote speeches and invited talks on trends and significant advances in humanitarian technologies.

The scope of conference papers and exhibits include but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Agriculture & Dairy

  • Women Empowerment

The authors are invited to submit their papers by the deadline through the HTC 2016 submission page. The submissions will be peer-reviewed for originality and scientific quality. The accepted papers will be submitted for inclusion into the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Papers should follow IEEE Conference format (, and should not exceed 6 pages.

Over the past several years, you have nurtured and developed a strong awards and recognitions program in R10 to promote volunteer services and contributions.

The R10 ARC, activity/program Coordinators, and committees have worked sincerely over the past seven to eight months to select worthy recipients for several R10 awards.

The IEEE Region10 with IEEE Bangalore Section is delighted to celebrate the 50 years since IEEE Region10 formation along with the IEEE Region10 Congress, 2016 to be held between 25th-27th August, 2016
at Hotel Lalit Ashok in Bangalore, India. Bangalore, the Garden City of India is all set to unveil its calm serenity and eloquent culture to the members of the Asia-Pacific Region.

Special Webinar Series from the IEEE 1st Year Member Experience Team

To enhance the value of the monthly New Member Orientation webinar sessions, the 1st Year Member Experience team has kicked off a series of special webinars built around topics of interest for those who have just joined IEEE.

The first session titled “Develop, Sustain and Grow Your Career”, was held last month and featured Steve Lien who is an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer from Region 5.  Steve shared his 40 years in the IEEE from college to his years at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing and through his current role in the Southwest Missouri IEEE Section.  Steve is also a Career Mentor for the IEEE Aerospace & Electronics Society (AES). This session was recorded and is available online.

The next session will be held 5 May 2016 at 8 a.m. EST and will feature a discussion on volunteering titled “Volunteering with IEEE – as Deep and Engaging as You Make It”. The session will be presented by IEEE volunteer Anthony Lobo.

IEEE Region 10 Distinguished Student Paper Award Competition Call for Participation

The first “IEEE Region 10 (Asia-Pacific) Distinguished Student Paper Award Competition (DSPAC)” will be held in the IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing, Communications and Computing (ICSPCC on August 5-8, 2016 in Hong Kong). The objective of this competition is to challenge students, building self-confidence, improving skill writing high quality papers, highlighting their research results, and making efficient presentations, and encouraging students to present their work at IEEE conferences.

The IEEE R10 Distinguished Student Paper Award (DSPA) consists of three levels, i.e., first, second, and third prizes. Besides a certificate, the winner will also receive a cash prize: USD 500.00 for the first prize, USD 300.00 for the second prize, and USD 200.00 for the third prize.

Terms and Conditions

(1) The participant must be IEEE Region 10 student member.

(2) The submitted paper should be either a journal paper published within the most recent 3 years (from Sept. 2013 to Aug. 2016) in IEEE transactions and journals or a conference paper accepted by ICPSCC 2016.

(3) The participant must be the first author of the submitted paper and must be a full-time student at the time of submission (student ID should be provided along with the paper submission).

(4) The participant must register (as a student) in ICSPCC’2016 before the early registration deadline (June 15th, 2016).

(5) The participant should present his/her paper in person.

Selection Process

(1) Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least three anonymous reviewers..

(2) Based on reviewers’ comments and ranking, up to 10 finalists will be selected.

(3) The qualified finalists will have to present in person in the DSPAC Session in ICSPCC’2016. (Note: those participants presented journal papers not in the finals will be given the opportunity to present their work in another special session at ICSPCC’2016)

(4) The IEEE R10 DSPAC Committee (organized by the R10 Professional Activities Committee) will select the winners based on the paper and presentation quality. No more than 6 finalists will be selected and awarded the “IEEE R10 Distinguished Student Paper Award ”.

Suozzi INTELEC® Fellowship in Electrical Engineering

The INTELEC Executive Committee (IEC) sponsors the Joseph J. Suozzi Fellowship in Power Electronics. The fellowship is named in honor of the late Dr. Joseph John Suozzi, a founder and long-time leader of INTELEC. This grant of $15,000 is made to an electrical engineering graduate student studying in an area of power electronics that powers information and communication technology systems. Such systems include Wireline and Wireless Systems, Data/Internet Systems, Video Systems, Satellite communications, Community Antennae Television (CATV), Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) Systems, Unified Communications, Wireless Internet Networks (Wi-Fi), Data Centers, Energy Storage, Smart Grid, etc. This scope includes the research, sustainability, fundamental development, design, application and management of communications energy and related systems.

This fellowship is international and is therefore open to electrical engineering graduate students in all countries. The applicant must be a member of IEEE and must furnish his/her IEEE membership number with the application. The award is a one-time grant to an individual and is not renewable.

Interested electrical engineering graduate students shall submit:

  1. An essay not exceeding one page in length that explains how his/her proposed project can be applied to powering of communications systems.
  2. A transcript of his/her grades.
  3. A letter of support from his/her Faculty Adviser.
  4. Your IEEE Membership Number

Prof. Benjamin Wah
Professor Benjamin Wah was the Franklin W. Woeltge Endowed Professorof Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinoisat Urbana-Champaign, and is a prominent computer scientist, withexpertise in non-linear programming, multimedia signal processing andartificial intelligence. He is a fellow of the IEEE, ACM, and AAAS;and has served as the President of IEEE Computer Society.

Prof. Rodney van Meter
Rodney Van Meter received a B.S. in engineering and applied sciencefrom the California Institute of Technology in 1986, an M.S. incomputer engineering from the University of Southern California in1991, and a Ph.D. in computer science from Keio University in 2006.His current research centers on quantum computer architecture andquantum networking.
